I'm going to pretend to be psychic and anticipate your points of confusion about blogging at this point. Here goes:
1.) What does a blog post look like?
2.) How do you actually post a blog post?
3.) How do you respond to another's blog post?
4.) How do you ensure that others can see your posts? (logistics)
5.) How can we ensure our safety on the big bad web?

Let's attempt to remedy your confusions:
1.) WHAT DOES A BLOG POST LOOK LIKE?
Let's re-visit the instructions and guidelines on page 3 of the OREO Q4 Assignment document in our drive (only GGUSD students can access with their .net log in). Follow these guidelines (because, after all, this IS a class), but BE CREATIVE! To add some additional assistance, it may help to know that your blog should be long enough to truly convey your wonderings and connections from your OREO book to the world, BUT also not so long as to deter others from reading it. I will read your first posts in order to find examples to showcase in class. We'll figure this out together!
2.) HOW DO YOU ACTUALLY POST A BLOG POST?
3.) HOW DO YOU RESPOND TO ANOTHER'S POST?
Start by visiting our Google doc called Q4 Wonder Blogs and clicking on blogs that seem interesting to you. You are encouraged to choose from all three classes. Read a few (or as many as you have time for). Then, for our purposes this quarter, choose ONE to respond to. When ready, click on the COMMENT link at the bottom of your peer's post and type your response, keeping the following in mind:
5.) HOW CAN WE ENSURE OUR SAFEY ON THE "BIG BAD WEB"?

2.) HOW DO YOU ACTUALLY POST A BLOG POST?
- First, you must make sure that your blog is PUBLISHED. Do this by clicking on the golden "Publish" button in the top, right hand corner of your screen. Publishing activates the url/domain so others can access your blog.
- Then, go to your blog and choose "New Post". Give your entry a clever title and start writing! The date will automatically generate.
- To add text, images, and more, DRAG AND DROP options from the toolbar on the left.
- You can SAVE in the top right corner if you are leaving the browser but are not yet done with your post. Or, if ready to share your thoughts with the world, click the golden POST button. HOWEVER, remember that your DIGITAL FOOTPRINT is super permanent. Double check all of your work prior to posting. And remember, "T.H.I.N.K."
- Advanced options: Choose the blue POST OPTIONS button on the left tool bar to do things like schedule a post and add categories. I'll be covering Categories in a later lesson. Keep the COMMENTS option OPEN for this quarter's project.
- "OH NO! I posted my blog post but I found a mistake/wanted to add or delete something! What do I do?!?!" It's easy, click on the post again, make your revisions, and click the golden UPDATE button. But don't make a habit of this. Once a post is live, anyone can see it.
- Suggestion: highlight and copy your blog post before posting in case it gets glitchy
- Don't forget that each week you must post no later than 11:59pm on Friday night.
- Include your first AND last name AND your period in your response
- Comments should be meaningful and thought-provoking
- Comments should be of "scholarly length" (but that doesn't mean write an entire essay!)
- T.H.I.N.K. before you post (Is it True, Helpful, Inspiring, Necessary, Kind?). ALWAYS keep that in the front of your mind.
- always proof read your work so as to avoid grammatical embarrassment!
- all comments must be completed by 11:59pm on Sunday nights
- Again, PUBLISH your site. You most POST your work for others to see it. And if you make any changes to your static pages, make sure to PUBLISH again.
- Make sure your url and blog title are up to date on the Q4 Wonder Blogs doc . Clever and catchy titles and urls help too!
- Always keep your audience in mind (background knowledge, interests, time constraints)
- I'll be sharing in future blog posts how to mobilize your blog posts through social media!
5.) HOW CAN WE ENSURE OUR SAFEY ON THE "BIG BAD WEB"?
- never use last names; first names only
- no pictures of students WITH names attached; exhibit appropriate etiquette when posting pictures and always ask for permission
- OTHER SUGGESTIONS? Feel free to chime in in the comments below.
