Who is Mrs. "House"?
- My name is Mrs. Housepian (Ho-sep-ee-un) but most students just call me Mrs. "House".
- This is my 17th year teaching and my 5th year at Pacifica High School. What a great place to be!
- I am passionate about getting students to become college and career ready! I have extensive experience with the college applications process and enjoy mentoring students about their college choices.
- You'll hear me say "Meet me in the middle!" all the time. I'll explain in class.
- I love to celebrate school spirit and can be seen wearing school colors or clothing every Monday! Go Mariners!
- I believe the 21st century classroom should be a place where students feel safe to make mistakes, celebrate growths and develop goals, understand that learning is about the journey (not just the destination), and learn to become productive and honorable members of society.
- I am a certified “Google Educator” and one of two Technology Coordinators/EdTech Coaches on campus. I believe integrating tech into my lessons helps students to be better prepared for the "real world"!
- I am the Yearbook Adviser on campus as well! Our Yearbook staff website can be found here.
- I grew up in Los Alamitos. I went to college in northern California at UC Davis and earned a degree in English (with a minor in Spanish). I then earned my teaching credential at Chapman University and recently my Masters degree in Educational Leadership at Azusa Pacific University. I love to learn and I show my COLLEGE PRIDE every "College Wednesday" on campus!
- My husband is also a teacher in GGUSD and we have daughter named Emma who starts 2nd grade this year, and a 5 year old son named Benjamin who started Kindergarten! They keep us busy between soccer, girl scouts, softball, swim, and more!
My Likes & Dislikes:
- I love traveling, photography, anything techy, learning, blogging, swimming laps, and spending time with my family and friends. I love teaching and my students! Teaching is a passion of mine, not just a “job”.
- I like it when students come to me for extra help. I can often times be heard telling students to "MEET ME HALF WAY". I want students to know that they can always get extra help from me if they are struggling. The best way to get a hold of me is through email, so email me and tell me what time you’d like to stop by for extra help. Or you can take your chances and stop by before or after school; hopefully I won’t be busy (I am busy at lunch.)
- I am a nut about organization (hint hint).
- I don’t like it when people talk when someone else has the floor. So be respectful and listen when others are sharing something with the class, especially when I’m talking!
Some things to know about my classroom:
- Respect the classroom and everyone and thing in it. This means leaving it better than you found it!
- No food or drinks; only water bottles. This is especially important because of all of the TECHNOLOGY we use!
- There are designated student areas where you can borrow supplies while in my classroom. However, do NOT touch any of my personal belongings on my corner of the room--it is my own space.
- There is a classroom library in my room, which is something I have worked very hard over the years to create (with student help and input). You are encouraged to check out a book and advance your own literacy skills and hopefully discover a love for reading!
