CLASSROOM CELL PHONE POLICY
I encourage the RESPONSIBLE use of smart phones and other tech devices during class, as many students now have such devices which can enhance their educational experience.

The following are my simple cell phone policies:

Use them for educational purposes only (no text messaging or social media!).
All cell phones and/or tech devices must be turned to silent while class is in session.
Impromptu use (defined as when I do not explicitly say you can take them out) must be limited to 30 seconds or less so as not to take away from your participation in class. You do NOT need to ask me if you can take it out.
Use them in plain sight on top of the tables. I despise sneaky cell phone use!
Understand that your ability to continue to use your devices in class is a privilege, one that I have been known to revoke if abused!

ANY LOST OR STOLEN TECH DEVICES ARE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE STUDENT, so watch over your belongings.

GAFE
Google Apps for Education

All students will be expected to access their GGUSD GAFE (Google Apps For Education) account on a DAILY basis. If you don't yet know your account access information, you'll get it at the start of the year.

Not only will you use your GAFE account to access your Google Classroom and "G-Drive" on a regular basis, your GAFE gmail address is what this class will use for most classroom announcements and communications. It will also be the email that you will use to email me with. I will give a lesson on how to access this account and how to sync your GAFE accounts to your smart phones and personal gmail accounts for easier access.

How to Access:
Your Username: grad year + first initial + last name (+possible #) + @ ggusd.net [ex: 18elopez@ggusd.net)

Your Password: your 8 digit birthday (until you change the password in my or other classes)

All students will be required to CHANGE their passwords to their GAFE accounts. However, do NOT do this until directed. It will be an assignment for this class and your passwords will be shared with me (in case you forget!).

Access to Online Learning

Google Classroom is one of the main ways in which you will receive assignments and announcements, and turn in digital assignments.

Instructions:
Log into your .net account.
Go to www.classroom.google.com.
Click the plus sign in the top right hand corner and choose "Join Class".
Type or copy/paste your period's access code into the new window.

Remind is a SUPER valuable tool in our classroom. It allows students and parents to receive TEXT MESSAGES from me without giving me access to their numbers. I might use Remind to send you reminders for an assignment, announce what to bring to class, where to meet for class, comments of encouragement, etc.

Make sure to download the app on your cell phones! There's fun interactive "stamps" you can use, only available on the app.

Turnitin.com

Turnitin.com is another site you will join. You will submit your essays and writing assignments to this account as well as Google Classroom. It will generate an originality report for you and the teacher so we can all stay honest and avoid plagiarism.

This site may also be used by the teacher to provide you with a score and additional written/verbal feedback so you can improve!

Edpuzzle.com

In this class, you'll be doing some learning online from the comforts of your own home, called "Flipped Learning". Why? Because it allows you to not only learn at your own pace, but also enables us to spend quality class time discussing and applying the learning together as a team!

We will be using this website throughout the year. After you join the appropriate class, you'll be able to receive lessons and complete some assignments to show your understanding.

This website is another flipped learning tool we'll be using in this class. It focuses on grammar instruction, practice, and assessment. Learning the "rules" of grammar can help your writing skills immensely! And this website does a great job of helping students learn the ins and outs of those rules.

Again, you'll join the appropriate class, complete lessons and assignments online, and grow as writers!
